Her Excellency the Governor General in Council, on the recommendation of the Minister of Indian Affairs and Northern Development, pursuant to paragraph 36(1)(b) and subsection 36(3) of the First Nations Fiscal and Statistical Management Act (see footnote a), hereby makes the annexed First Nations Local Revenue Law Review Regulations.

FIRST NATIONS LOCAL REVENUE LAW REVIEW REGULATIONS

INTERPRETATION

Definition of "Act"

1. In these Regulations, "Act" means the First Nations Fiscal and Statistical Management Act.

Referral to panel

2. (1) On receipt of a property taxation law referred to in paragraph 10(a) of the Act that was submitted to the Commission for approval, the Commission may refer the law to a panel composed of one or more Commissioners to conduct a review of it under section 31 of the Act.

(2) On receipt of any other property taxation law, or a law made under paragraph 5(1)(c) of the Act, that was submitted to the Commission for approval, the Commission may refer the law to a panel composed of three or more Commissioners to conduct a review of it under section 31 of the Act.

3. If a panel constituted under section 2 is not completely satisfied that a law referred to it for review complies with the Act and any regulations and standards made under the Act, the panel shall refer the law for review by the Commission as a whole.

COMING INTO FORCE

Coming into force

4. These Regulations come into force on the day on which they are registered.
